Choosing the Right Shampoo For You

Choosing a shampoo can be tricky when there are so many options available. So here’s a comprehensive guide on choosing the best shampoo for you from our selection here at Shallon!

We carry not only different brands and varieties of shampoos at Shallon, but different forms! Liquid shampoo is what most people are familiar with, but there’s also solid bar shampoo which is a great way to save packaging and reduce waste. No bottles needed! But solid and liquid shampoos both have pros and cons, so let’s go over them shall we?

Liquid shampoo

Liquid shampoo is easy to apply and spread over your hair. This does unfortunately require a bottle, but our in-house Oneka shampoo can be refilled! This means that you can refill the same bottle over and over again rather than throwing it away every time. This can be one of our bottles, or just about any clean container you have at home! A bottle of shampoo does tend to take up more space however, and the liquid form can make it less practical for travelling and bringing on a plane.

Shampoo bar

Shampoo bars require no packaging, which makes them a fabulous option for a zero-waste lifestyle! They’re also compact and easy to bring with you on a trip without taking up too much space, and they last just as long as a liquid shampoo despite their size. Shampoo bars can, on the other hand, be more time-consuming to apply. Lathering it up in your hands enough to spread over all of your hair, can take some time and may require 2 washes.

Once you decide if liquid or solid shampoo is better for your lifestyle, here are the options we have in each category, and how they benefit different hair types:

Oneka liquid shampoo - this product can be purchased in our glass bottles, which can be refilled once you run out, or you can bring in a clean container of your own to get filled! This is a salon quality liquid shampoo which leaves the hair shiny and soft. Appropriate for an average hair type and scalp, and comes in the scents “Cedar & Sage” and “Lavender”.

John Masters liquid shampoos - These are herbally medicinal shampoos with a variety of benefit depending on your needs. The Volumizing Shampoo uses rosemary and peppermint to give body to the hair, while also being gentle on the scalp. The Deep Moisturizing shampoo is also kind to the scalp while providing hydration for dry hair. Other types of John Masters shampoo can be requested for us to carry at any time!

Bottle None shampoo bars - Here at Shallon, we carry three of the Bottle None shampoos, each appropriate for different hair types. The first is the normal type. Great for hair that isn’t overly dry or oily, and just needs a simple clean. The Deep Cleansing bar is ideal for oily hair that simply doesn’t like to let go of that grease, and leaves those strands thoroughly cleaned at last! The last one we carry is the Purple Shampoo by Bottle None, which is made for colour treated hair, particularly blonde or ashy shades. It tones the hair with a hint of purple to offset yellow and brassy undertones.

Forest Etiquette Rewild shampoo bar - this bar is made with locally harvested herbs, and treats a variety of hair types, but is particularly nourishing for damaged hair. Whether you have heat damage of dyed hair, this bar is wonderfully soothing for the scalp, and can help bring fried hair back to life!

If you’re having any issues figuring out which of our shampoos is best for you, come into the shop, and we’ll be happy to help!
